Conquest & Expansion Brittean Atlantis

Recommended Posts

Do not comment if this is not your thread! They can be discussed in Global News!

Each Nation can claim one adjacent state per Day. Only nations with at least 1 transport ship can claim islands.

Please claim stating which unique territory code you wish to claim (or spy if you have one) and try to RP it rather than just state "a1".

The Mod of War will let you know how things progress. If you dont respond within 1 day if the state is contested your forces shall be retreated and the state remain unclaimed.

Enjoy!

The Atlantean hierarchy has declared intention to procure more farmland and as such is deploying troops toward the State of E1 in the South of Britain Island.

The infantry forces are marching through over the border as we speak.

The Brittean forces move into the area to procure farmland, and ate met with no greater resistance the cows farting in the wind.

"Heck of a smell, milords!" chirps one insolent foot soldier as the Brittean Hierarchy inspects the new lands - and secretly they agree!

The Brittean Atlantis now controls a small state where the predominate resource is farmland, producing a basic but sustaining amount of food for a growing Empire.

November 28th

Onward to E10 Atlanteans! Claim the lands bordering our Mother, the Sea!

The forces of Brittean Atlantis march further onwards towards the wilds of Wales, sending a small yet thoroughly professional force to secure yet another region.

Great fields of corn spread the land, glistening in the shimmering sun. All is well and merry as the troops begin to forage corn to send back to the capital.

But corn is not all that this land offers. In the night, a great foulness falls over the camp. Dysentery – the curse of the common foot soldier strikes! 10% of all foot infantry in the area lie stricken in their berths beneath the stars. The healers work through the night, and by the morning, exhausted, they have managed to save many of the stricken troops. The dead are buried in a single grave over the next few days.

The land has been taken, but at a worrying cost. The Governor is criticised by some factions for endangering the lives of a handful troops for naught but a few corn fields – although some rise to his defence – had his employment of healers not saved many lives? The state provides a basic amount of food and taxable peasantry. Overall, disaster has generally been averted and a worthwhile venture.

Losses – 6 Men-At-Arms, 5 Pikemen, 1 Militia (update to factbook)

The Royal Governor has commanded that his forces be reorganized and reinforced. The Northern Brittean Army has received some much desired company. The Army is now one of 135 Men-at-arms, 135 Pikemen as well as 50 Militia and 70 Light Horsemen for support. They are supported by 2 expert blacksmiths, 1 large supply wagon, and 3 of the nations best healers and currently await in E10 for further commands

--------------

It was also announced today that the Atlantean leaders have commanded our Great Royal Governor to claim a portion of the Normandy coastline (D51). As such, today a Transport ship sailed off under the cheers and waves of the Capital city's people crowding the military dock.

Aboard the vessel were 250 Men-at-Arms and 200 Pikemen supported by the nation's best 175 Militiamen and 80 expert Longbowmen. Below deck one would find 2 supply wagons and 4 healers.

It is only a matter of hours before these great men set foot on the continent and approach whatever dangers there may lay in wait.

May the banner of the Brittean Colony forever fly!

The forces are still unloading on to the beach when a single horn rings out from the cliffs above. The Brittean forces look up, startled and panic spreads throughout the army. The Commander of the Brittean expedition makes his way to the front of the rabble, just as 500 men appear on the clifftop. "Damn" he mumbles, knowing that there are only two ways off this beach; to flee or to fight?

The commander decides it best to stand and fight.

The men on the beaches move into formation with Men-at-Arms in front and Pikemen close behind.

Some Militia occupy the unloading ramp, shoulder to shoulder while the rest move below deck to hold the stores and supplies.

The 80 Longbowmen claim the deck and set arrows on their strings.

As men continue to unload on the shore,  forming a wall to protect the ship, the commander awaits advance of the horde so that arrows may rain down upon them.

To the soldiers he says:

"Sun Tzu says not to oppose an army attacking downhill.

We are doing just that.

He also says never to attack an enemy when they have no escape other than victory or death.  The barbarians are doing just that; for if we meet defeat this day, not a soul is going home. We win here, or we die here. Should any man turn his back to the enemy, his head shall meet my swift blade."

Following orders, the Longbowmen on the ship and the infantry on the shore steady their feet, settle their hips, and set their eyes on the enemy.

"Your move" he says while quietly starring in the direction of the hill, his men settle into ranks.

The weather is clear (no troop penalties) and the salty air is fresh and crisp - as good a place to die as any.

The hostile commander, Chief Benk Enobi, knows that he has the high ground. He knows that the enemy is greater in strength and numbers, but also how they are pinned on the beach. The only way from the beach to the cliffs is a narrow steep gully. He knows his men are itching to attack, but he is a veteran of many campaigns against sea invaders.

"Men. See how they prepare their defensive positions on the sand. If they wish to be lords sand and crabs let them stay there. We have the high ground! If they want our lands they can come bloody take them!

"Damn that intelligent pig"

The Commander instructs the men to hold a vigilant mind and stay fully armed for battle. The ship is reloaded and the men sail off to the north of Britain Island to E29. The last of the men board the ship under cover of darkness and sail across the channel to EH gathering supplies before continuing up the coast to their destination. They are also joined by New Troops at port.

The total force is now:
350 Men-at-Arms, 300 Pikemen, 175 Militia, 110 Longbowmen, 2 Supply Wagons, 4 Healers, and 1 Spy

Brittean intelligence has already learnt that a small hostile force is in the region, and so have come more prepared to fight than their previous naval disembarkment.

The Brittean forces disembark on a sand bar unimpinged. The land is muddy and soft, so initial progress is slow.

The hostile forces, 500 strong under the command of the local landholder, Barton de Humber have chosen to defend themselves in a village located on a spit. A 4ft high earthern wall cover the East and South Side, water to the West and a flooded ditch to the north.

The commander of the Brittean forces is eager for a quick victory. He sees his choices as thus:

Plan A - A daring amphibious assault on the Western Side.

Plan B - Storm the walls in force.

Plan C - A diversionary attack via water while a main force assaults the wall.

Plan D - Plan C reversed.

The commander looks in the direction of the village, "Sun Tzu says that all of these options suck ass"

Upon conferring with this advisers and most senior officers he decides that the most applicable of Sun Tzu's teachings is "if twice as numerous, divide our army into two"

Near duck, in a smaller vessel the commander sends a force of 30 Men-at-Arms, 30 Pikemen, 20 Militia, and 60 Longbowmen.

While the village defenders watch the ship slide up the river, the sun shines bright in their eyes from the sky and the surface of the water.

325 M-a-A, 275 Pikemen and 140 Militia ready to storm the walls at the Commander's call. 50 Longbowmen will remain a hundred meters back from the wall to cover any possible retreat or counter offensive that may be within range.

The remaining 25 M-a-A, 25 Pikemen, 15 Militia, as well as the logistical support remain behind on the land nearest the Transport ship.

Whenever the first horn is heard from the commander, the ship adjusts course for the village's waterfront. The second horn blasts the air within minutes and the assault from the east begins. As the ship turns to broadside the village, the 60 Longbowmen aboard begin firing volleys of arrows into the near-side of the village targeting anything that moves. After several volleys, the Longbowmen cease firing lest they strike their own men.

Let's see what happened!  Oh @Priydan!!!

Barton de Humber looks out from the earth walls, then back to the far side of the village which is now aflame.

"Damn these fiends and their fire. They are everywhere. We cannot hold. All is lost, can't ye see? We are all damned unless we surrender".

A white flag is raised above the Earthen Walls. 37 defenders lay dead, their bodies plucked full of burning arrows. What to do with the remaining 463 militia men and Barton de Humber is entirely up to the commander of the Brittean forces, but remember: for every action there will be a consequence.

By oder of the Brittean Royal Governor, Barton de Humber we be offered administrative rights to the State he had previously occupied. The only conditions are as follows:

-He must agree to house and include an adviser of the Royal Governor in all matters of state and colony importance
-He must offer Brittean forces quarter in times of peace and war with the understanding that his own soldiers may be asked to serve the Colony on the Isle of Britain

-He must allow the Brittean Colony to build schools, medicine booths, and a harbour in his state once the village has been repaired

-He must also fly the flag of the Brittean Colony alongside his own over the governing building of the city.

Will the Barton accept this humble and generous offer?

Barton de Humber is all too keen to sign such generous terms. He thanks you for sparing his life...oh, and that of the men too, of course.

The Brittean Government has shown excellent judgement both militarily and diplomatically in this scenario, and THE MOD OF WAR determines that he should receive 25 extra credits daily.

Thursday's Maneuvering

As the people of E29 settle back down and rebuilding-expansion efforts are underway royal builders arrive to begin construction on the medicine booths and schools for the state. Barton de Humber's people are happy and welcome the arrival of the Royal Governor's adviser in the ceremonial flag raising of the Brittean Colonial Flag of the housing of the city government.

-----------------------

The commander of the Second Brittean Army instructs the transport ship to return to the capital at EF and await further commands from the Governor. Meanwhile, the 2nd Army, charged from their recent victory is ready to charge across the border into E30 after tales of fine resources in the lands. All of the units from E29 are moving in the campaign.

The fine city of York, renowned for it's city walls, Great Cathedral and vibrant riverways built upon the wealth of ahem *diamonds* welcomes the Brittean Army.

The Archbishop of York invites the Brittean Commander to a great service at York Minster in which he proclaims Region as a protectorate of Brittean Atlantis. The Archbishops robes drip with diamonds and even the Brittean commanders are in awe of the wealth on display - far more used to dealing with cows.

Brittean Atlantis now controls a state with a basic but invaluable amount of diamonds and taxable citizens (and the greatest city known on earth, York...)
