Hi Kris. Yes, Slack is required. You won't find a good alliance in this game that doesn't require some sort of chat application. It's necessary, particularly for our mentorship program and for wartime communication, and a huge benefit for getting to know your alliance mates and participate in the community. If that's a dealbreaker for you, we wish you the best of luck finding an alliance that better suits you.
