  1. To be fair, the correct nomenclature/semantics for this food item requires an appropriate descriptor.  That is to say the term 'toastie' (my preference is actually 'toasty') in isolation is too broad brush to be compared to 'grilled cheese' for it lacks the required "class" or "id".  To be clear, the semantically correct term is 'cheese toasty'.

Interestingly there are local peculiarities that should not be overlooked; for instance the good 'ol 'baked bean toasty' may or may not also have cheese on it, with the term functioning acceptably according to local protocol.  This structural lack certainly does not apply to the 'ham toasty' where in the instance that cheese is also desired requires the specification of cheese to become 'ham and cheese toasty'.  Interestingly the only time the reverse is deemed acceptable i.e. 'cheese and ham toasty', is where the person articulating the request is believed foreign (from anywhere where grilled cheese is a thing).

  2. I don't really know tbh.  Does PnW count as gaming?  The only game I play is PnW on my PC so I guess you might call me a PC gamer.  I do actually have other games on my PC that I don't play ... Warthunder, CK, EU4, and Foxhole, all purchased/downloaded in moment of madness where the slightest reflection would've stayed that final and costly keystroke.  If I were to also own a console I'd probably just play that with the kids (and most likely end up throwing it out in a fit of rage at their inevitable arguments).

    nobody lovin gaseous cheese? :(

It is close but cheese taste > cheese smell.  Although it may be argued the significant contribution that cheese smell confers to its taste, I do not think it is a reciprocal arrangement, ergo it is an argument that can be discarded imo.  Also, lungs were meant for clean air, as all sufferers of chronic respiratory disease can attest to (including smokers, vapers, coal miners, people exposed to asbestos, stone masons etc.)  I do not believe the research is in yet on the potentially long term effects of exposure to gaseous cheese, however it is pleasing to see that our community has chosen to avoid this (presumably) perfidious toxin.  If one were to coin a term for chronic lung disease secondary to gaseous cheese exposure, I could get behind 'Swiss Lung', 'Parmesan Puffer', 'Brie Bloater' or even 'Chedder induced Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)'.

  4. Cheese is necessarily hot/melted on a pizza, and generally any cheese becomes more pungent/flavourful the warmer it gets.

Also a nice pecorino or Gouda is too brittle when cold and needs to be at least room temperature.  The only instance of cold cheese being better is coarsely grated Parmesan on a hot Italian meal that provides a nice texture prior to it melting.

  5. Etat and missus Etat (and probably our x3 mini Etats) are all currently Covid positive and enjoying quarantine together, presumed to be omicron given the present climate of rampant transmission.

TBH, and somewhat brutally, if one were to catch Covid I think Omicron is the one to get (early days still really though).  Seems to be significantly milder though much more virulent.  I approve of such mutations tbh, perhaps Covid will mutate itself into irrelevance 🤞

  6. @Elyzabeth Byrd if I may be so bold as to offer some unsolicited advice: make sure you give yourself months of prep, not weeks 🙃 also if your testing is over a whole day, be very mindful about what you eat for lunch!

I sat the GAMSAT test back in 2014 after only 5 weeks prep, then ate a big McDonald’s lunch halfway through which made me painfully gassy throughout the last test section (that requiring the mini essays if memory serves).  It is very psychologically difficult to do massive, abdo-pain relieving farts in a large echoey auditorium while surrounded by 100 other people!  Ultimately I made the grade but didn’t get a competitive result.

All the best with this pursuit 😀

  7. 'Do not pursue what is illusory - property and position: all that is gained at the expense of your nerves decade after decade, and is confiscated in one fell night.  Live with a steady superiority over life - don't be afraid of misfortune, and do not yearn after happiness; it is, after all, all the same: the bitter doesn't last forever, and the sweet never fills the cup to over-flowing.  It is enough if you don't freeze in the cold and if thirst and hunger don't claw at your insides.  If your back isn't broken, if your feet can walk, if both arms can bend, if both eyes see, and if both ears hear, then whom should you envy?  And why?  Our envy of others devours us most of all.  Rub your eyes and purify your heart - and prize above all else in the world those who love you and wish you well.  Do not hurt them or scold them, and never part from any of them in anger; after all, you simply do not know: it might be your last act before your arrest, and that will be how you are imprinted in their memory!'
