  1. The Syndicate requests a large shipment of "patchleather" in exchange for a nice gun and a big screen TV. We had a large stockpile of leather so Azaghul readies the request within hours.

    Spoiler

    leathergun.png

Benfro takes the assault rifle, while Bear holds on to the charge rifle.

The big ass tv pimps our recreation/dinner room nicely, and Bear makes a nice chair with the excess patchleather.

    recroom.png

Dr Micchan installs dentures on one of the prisoners for practice.

    Spoiler

    micdentures.png

She messes up the surgery. Rin tries and fails too, messing up the prisoner's head.

While Rin was passed out during a drunken stupor, the prisoner breaks out of his cell and into her room, steals a sword, and hacks open a wall that led into another prison cell. Zaxon comes along and knocks him out. Zaxon loses a thumb in the fight.

The new bedrooms are finished around this time, so we migrate the existing colonists away from the prison complex into the new, slightly impressive rooms, and renovate their former rooms into prison cells.

Food shortages hit because of the previous assault where the farms got wiped out. Food production hasn't quite caught up with the new colonists and animals. We'll have to upgrade the farms too, now that we have the power supply for sun lamps.

Etatsorp joins the colony, repentant from his former raiding job. He's a very talented fighter and we'll raise him up as a swordsman. Maybe even give him a machine gun if necessary.

    Spoiler

At the end of Decembary, the colony looks as follows:

    base5504.png

p/s this game has been going for 3 months, yay. Last run with TKR, everyone tantrumed, refused to put out fires, and died within weeks.

  2. We start migrating the dining room towards the old store room, and migrate the store room towards the middle of the base. We add four more stockpiles: one chemfuel stockpile, two wood stockpiles at the north and south of the base, and one vault near the prison.

Arrgh sets up a siege while half the team is out on a routine trade mission.

    arrghseige.png

They're pretty short ranged, besides the incendiary mortars.

Rin, Azaghul, and Szeth put out fires. Esthaevys harasses them to try to drag them into Bear's minigun, but they just take the hits and fortify. The rest of the team assault before they could do too much damage with the mortars.

Thanks to Bear's minigun skill, deaths happen in seconds. Bear and Benfro each took a bruise from a bullet, but those healed with a night's rest. The only real damage was to a month's worth of crops.

We captured one prisoner, and got two shiny new mortars.

While construction and repair work goes on at base, Benfro takes a trip to do some peace talks with Terminus Est. They're still hostile, but not nearly as much as before.

I feel like your colony is organized and well laid out. Meanwhile, I kinda just slap down rooms, dumping zone and farmplots willy nilly

lol, not really. I just slap them about and then move stuff as needed.

Like I just realized while typing this that the store room should have been in the middle and the dining room/casino should be where the store room is. I might just switch the two later before I start carpeting the store room. And like I messed up bedrooms, so I'm also migrating the bedrooms away and using the existing ones as prison cells and the existing prison cells as store rooms for organs and chemfuel. You'll see like a special hard to reach vault for all the gold, silver, advanced components, but it's really just well protected because it was a cramped prison cell. And like the tombs were put in a place dug out to store chemfuel.

  4. Now that we have a full assortment of colonists, we can start expanding. We'll need to expand the comfort level of the colony before wealth. Next stages of the colony:

    • Improving bedrooms and homey prison cells. Bear builds 3 new ones, and Benfro smooths out the existing ones.
    • Carpets and smoothed floors. Rin starts carpet research and Szeth plants cotton.
    • Dining room expansion into recreational area. Bear begins work on this but we're waiting on the soft velvety casino carpet.
    • Alpaca furs. Zaxon starts domesticating sevral alpacas.
    • Geothermal power, more TVs and lighting.
    • Heavier armor, buying all the recon armor we can get out hands on.
    • Spare parts stockpile, to replace damaged lungs and fingers.
    • Advanced research workbench.

So it turns out that Rin is a total bitch. Micchan calls Rin a NPO spy. Rin calls Micchan a whole lot of other things. Micchan gets very stressed out.

The Syndicate asks us to counter some raiders.

    Spoiler

    destroy-camp.png

Sounds easy enough. 5 of our warriors, with a minigun and charge rifle, vs 6 raiders. The rewards aren't great, so we'll just do it for free. Micchan puts on some shiny new recon armor we got off a recent trade.

The bandit camp is poorly defended, with the heaviest bandit weapon being a bolt rifle. It's almost as if we were overprepared for this.

    Spoiler

    bandito.png

Esthaevys opens fire to their furthest ranged bandit, hitting with a shot to the knee. A flurry of minigun fire from Bear heavily wounds their assault.

    bandit-minigun.png

The battle ends quickly, with Zaxon taking only a few cuts and bruises. Micchan patches him up.

The Syndicate signs an unchained MDP.

  5. We raid another Arrgh camp, looting two turrets, several standing lamps, and liberating Zaxon. Zaxon is a decent fighter. He'll likely do well with a LMG, but we need more melee fighters, so we'll give him a sword.

    Spoiler

    zaxon.png

Another TEst raid hits. This one wasn't notable and it earned three slaves. Two slaves were sold for a minigun and EMP grenades.

The third was an intelligent old lady with bloodlust. Main skill is research and medical. Let's call her Rin, because I'm running out for female names for TKR and saving Adrienne for a better Mary Sue. Moderate combat skill, she picks up an excellent steel mace for prisoner control later.

    Spoiler

    rin.png

A couple of thrumbos come by. The team goes hunting. It took an average of 35 bullets to take down each, including several bullets to the lungs and brain. Looks like all the machine guns came in handy.

    Spoiler

    bulletsvsthrumbo.png

Micchan was knocked out and Esthaevys had heavy bleeding but it went okay.

A few days later, an Arrgh raiding party air drops into the base. Micchan, Szeth, Benfro, Rin, and Zaxon are downed by all the melee fighters. Azaghul, Bear, and Esthaevys rescue and treat them. Micchan and Szeth lost a finger each. We captured three prisoners, probably worth a literal arm and leg, but they all died from blood loss.

We're low on medicine. We'll send out a trade caravan soon, to sell off spare weapons, beer, and thrumbo.

The base has now been heavily fortified, thanks to the hard work of Bear and Azaghul. We'll still have to worry about paradropping pirates and insect infestations, but external raids are less of a problem now.

This. I can't really watch comedy movies, but I can watch movies with comedic elements.

Ex: Inglorious Basterds isn't a comedy movie, but there are parts of that movie that are really funny, and that does it for me.

Yeah, like Forrest Gump is a drama movie, and Human Centipede is a horror. I can't think of a full comedy movie I liked. Maybe the closest is like romantic comedy.

  7. On the way back, The Syndicate congratulates us on the victory and offers a deal in case do more pirate hunting.

    humanleather.png

ilu Partisan and those advanced components are nice, but fuck that.

edit: on second thought, I might actually do this if you guys talk me into it. but it's going to be a huge mood debuff cutting up humans and selling their leather.

  8. Benfro is promoted to the new colony leader, and Smith's fancy tribal helm is buried together with the body. A devilstrand bowler hat crowns the new leader.

It's been a sad day, and the colony honors the memory of Durham, Smith, and Ragnar. Wait, wasn't Szeth still alive? We have reports on where Szeth is kept prisoner, and after two deaths (including the only farmer), this is a good time to raid the raiders and save him. We wait a few days for everyone to recover from their injuries. Fortunately, blood only takes a couple days to refresh.

It's a 3 day journey to the camp. The assault team consists of wounded Micchan, Esthaevys, Bear, and Benfro, with Azaghul fortifying the base.

    Spoiler

    szeth-liberation.png

Micchan decides it's a good time to get PTSD and just stares out into space the whole night. Guess it's up to Bear, Benfro, and Esthaevys.

The turrets are well fortified. The base relies on solar power generators, so we take shots at the capacitors. In a few good hits, the defenses are down. One turret is still up and Benfro almost walks into it, but Bear points it out.

    Spoiler

    remaining-turret.png

The remaining turret is well guarded, with a machine gun around the capacitor and a guard. The whole squad pulls back and snipes at them.

    Spoiler

We find Szeth, where they have been feeding the poor guy raw goat meat and potatoes.

Rain is always fun. And rivers, though rivers are a little cold. I used to bath at a well at one point in my life. In more rural parts, it's common to have a bucket of water mixed with boiling hot water, because heated showers are expensive.

Funny that the verb for cleaning yourself in English is either "shower" or "bath".

  10. Smith and Azaghul haul several people off to the hospital. The main hospital ward was full, so the others were brought to the prison hospital.

A horse kills one of the invaders.

    horsekill.png

A mad turkey killed another raider. The animal assaults scares off the remaining raiders.

Smith is assaulted by the mad turkey and runs off to barricade in the prison hospital with Durham.

    Spoiler

    madturkey.png

Durham dies in his hospital bed. Durham's horse blames Smith for the death and assaults him.

    Spoiler

With a mad horse and turkey rampaging outside, Azaghul boards up the hospital.

    Spoiler

Smith is brought in to the prison hospital later that night, but he doesn't make it.

Azaghul stabilizes the remaining ones, but Micchan, Esthaevys, and Bear are at extreme blood loss.

    Active: Azaghul
    Stable: Benfro
    Near death: Micchan, Esthaevys, Bear
    Deaths: Smith, Durham.

    Spoiler

    tomb.png

Tombs are built to honor Smith and Durham's deaths. The first actual deaths since Ragnar.

edit: I'm going to name that raider slaying horse Woot

If there's one thing i learned about the game is the importance of melee fighters with good armor. Both for taking on other melee fighters and tanking shots lol. It's all fun and games until the mechnoid lancer kills your sniper behind cover in the first two shots

My old notes said something about 1/3 of the team being melee. I thought that was a typo, but now I can see why.

  12. Wee long time no update! Sorry, been busy with work and spending the whole day buying groceries 😑

The colony has done its first batch of beer. The smell of alcohol invites an Arrgh raiding party, the largest so far, with more automatic weapons than ever before.

    Spoiler

    largeraid.png

While the raid managed to push past the first line of sandbags, the pirates were wounded by traps and gunned down at the corridor leading into the base.

    ezwinlargeraid.png

Loot: Two machine pistols, a couple knives, two prisoners, and a bolt action rifle.

Smith took a quick expedition into the nearest Syndicate town, sold off the pirates into slavery, as well as a large batch of beer and ambrosia. In return, we got half a year's supply of fuel and medicine, an excellent mace, a LMG, and a construction neurotrainer.

Azaghul's skill went up from 3 to 10, making him the best builder in the colony. He pops in three more bedrooms.

We picked up a new recruit, Bear. Bear used to write fan fiction as a child, but as he grew up, he was drafted as a marine in Space Thailand.

    Spoiler

    bear.png

With more people able to build stuff, the next priority is building a proper fort. Durham and Azaghul get to work crafting bricks, while Bear gains construction experience laying down sandbags and walls.

A defoliator crashes, threatening to destroy our flora. A squad comes out to destroy it, and it's defended by a few scythers (robots with bladed arms).

    Spoiler

    defoliator.png

The scyther takes down Micchan, causing no long term injuries, but the gunners are still safe.

    defoliatordown.png

Durham takes Micchan back to safety, while the others pew pew the defoliator.

    pewpewdefoliator.png

Back in base, bunkers and walls have been set up surrounding the base. Sterile tiles were set up in the hospitals and kitchen.

A KT raid hits, with smaller numbers than the earlier Arrgh raid. They're mostly armed with melee, going up against a fortified bunker with traps set up. This should be easy.

    Spoiler

    It was not.

The group was used to outgunning invaders, and so most of the traps placed around cover were not hit. The assaulters swarmed the bunker, but LMGs don't do so well in close quarters. Several raiders were shot, but not stopped. Micchan was the only capable melee fighter, while gun barrels don't do so well versus knives.

The whole defense team were taken down. Emergency medical personnel rush to the scene.
